In this post, I will show you how to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 using VMware. To do this installation, you require either a VMware player (Free) or VMware Workstation (Paid) or any other equivalent emulation tool like Oracle VM or VMware Server.
Once you have your Vmware software ready, it is time to download Red Hat Linux and store it somewhere in your PC. Our next step is to create a Virtual Machine to install RHEL 6. I have listed the steps below, please follow it.
STEPS:
1. Open your VMware Workstation/player and click "Create new virtual machine"
2. Choose the First Radio Button "Typical". Press "Next"
3. Choose the Second Radio button and point out the directory where the RHEL software exist. and Press "Next"
4. Next you will get a screen asking Full Name, username and password. Press "Next"
5. Fill it up with your desired name and password. Press "Next"
6. Name your virtual machine (eg: My Red Hat Linux). Press "Next". This is NOT your Host name.
7. Allocate the space usage which you want your RHEL to occupy in your PC hard disk. If you are a basic user then 20gigs is more than enough. If You are an advance user wanting to install other software, I suggest you to increase the size to a minimum of 100gigs. BTW check the first option "Store as a single disk" to avoid mismanage of Linux Hard Disk. Press "Next"
8. Once done, press "Finish" to install the RHEL or else you can change the hardware specification of your Virtual machine by selecting the option "Customize hardware"
9. You will get several screens in blue and black color so you will have to wait for the below screen and wait for the RPMs to get installed until you see a RHEL login screen.
10. Enter the password which you created in STEP 5 and press "Login"
11. This is how your Red Hat Linux v6.4 Desktop screen looks like:
This post concludes the RHEL 6 installation in VMware workstation/player.
